Registered Nurse - Med-Surg/Telemetry
Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Employment Type: Clinical
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient care under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor/Patient Care Coordinator. The RN is responsible for assessing patients, planning and delivering age-appropriate care, and interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize assigned equipment including telemetry monitors, wound vac, IV infusion pumps, glucose monitors, and defibrillators.
- Safely move equipment and patients using proper safety measures.
- Perform thorough physical assessments and report any changes in patient status.
- Manage central line care, IV insertion/care, and blood transfusions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and dignity following established care philosophies.
- Communicate effectively with care providers, team members, patients, and families.
- Maintain sterile fields as required.
- Administer medications accurately, including barcode scanning and verification of patient orders.
- Enter provider orders accurately into the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Monitor and order supplies as needed.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens to the lab promptly.
- Prioritize workload and multitask efficiently.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, care plans, and medications.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to nurse aides, volunteers, and ancillary staff.
- Conduct walking rounds with the oncoming shift including patient and family participation.
- Complete all required documentation for admissions, shifts, transfers, and discharges.
- Respond to emergency operation needs as required.
- Maintain compliance with isolation procedures and hand hygiene policies.
- Keep workspaces, equipment, and patient rooms clean and organized.
- Review quality indicators monthly and strive to exceed goals.
- Complete all assigned training modules and annual competency evaluations.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 pounds, and constant walking and movement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of two years of Med-Surg/Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications in:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, balancing, standing, turning, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and fine motor movements.
