Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Shift & Hours

• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Med/Surg unit (acute care surgical floor experience required)
• Mixed stepdown (SD) and medical-surgical (MS) patient care
• Not a PACU position

Patient Population

• Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
• Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
• Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex
• Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
• Document patient responses to nursing interventions and medical treatments
• Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
• Obtain and monitor physiological data; intervene as necessary
• Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products
• Communicate care plans with patients and families, including at discharge
• Make referrals regarding patient care needs
• Delegate tasks to support staff
• Maintain good working relationships with other employees

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Oklahoma
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Acute care experience, including surgical floor experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program
• ENT and/or transplant nursing experience preferred
• Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred
• Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors
• Some computer skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Additional Notes

• Nurses may be assigned to either medical-surgical or stepdown patients depending on unit needs and nurse availability
• ICU nurses floated to this unit will work with stepdown patients based on acuity and skill set
