Staff Nurse - Night Shift

Location: Johnson City, New York

Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. The RN ensures compliance with nursing standards and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act and relevant nursing codes and policies. The role promotes a caring, patient-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
• Participate in resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support Nursing Shared Governance Model through unit council participation and improvement initiatives.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new staff and students.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Experience in management roles.
• Cardiac nursing experience including:

  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Watchman device care
  • Mitral clip procedures
  • Heart catheterizations
  • Pre-operative and post-operative open heart care (when transferred out of CVICU)
  • Post-operative Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) care (greater than 3 days)
  • Cardiac intravenous (IV) and oral (PO) medication administration
  • Cardiac drip management including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Heparin, and Insulin
  • Anticoagulant therapy management
• Experience caring for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), chest pain (CP), arrhythmias, NSTEMI, STEMI, pulmonary embolism (PE), sepsis, pneumonia (PNA), stroke, and observation patients.
• Experience with Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or similar intermediate care settings.
• Experience with TR band use and groin management.
• Familiarity with cardiac and post-operative complications.
