Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Obstetrics (OB)

Location: Picayune, Mississippi
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 8 weeks (54 days ≈ 8 weeks)
Shift: 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)

  • Rotation options: 36/48 hours or straight 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Short-term assignments with ASAP start date

Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care under direct supervision of the Director and charge nurse in the Obstetrics unit.
  • Implement nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Deliver age-appropriate care to maternal and newborn patients, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
  • Document all care and pertinent information in the medical record to ensure continuity.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, anesthesia, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain professional communication and respect cultural and religious beliefs of patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and troubleshoot labor and delivery equipment, including fetal monitors, telemetry fetal monitoring, fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheters, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights, and IV infusion pumps.
  • Apply critical thinking to recognize and respond to maternal and fetal complications during labor and delivery.
  • Assist physicians with vacuum extractor or forceps deliveries.
  • Safely position laboring patients to optimize uteroplacental blood flow and use leg stirrups during vaginal delivery.
  • Recognize and intervene in delivery complications such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including repositioning patients under epidural anesthesia, using safety measures.
  • Provide care for mother/infant couplets and recognize compromised newborns requiring emergency interventions.
  • Educate and support patients on breastfeeding best practices.
  • Promote a positive, safety-focused work environment and adhere to organizational values and policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license appropriate for Mississippi.
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical records system required.
  • Ability to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work night shifts and meet scheduling requirements.
  • Professional appearance required, including natural or neutral hair colors.

Additional Information

  • Must participate in all required competencies before deadlines.
  • Adhere to departmental and facility policies, including communication protocols.
  • Maintain positive workplace behavior; gossip and rumor-spreading are prohibited.
  • Level 1 experience with 10-17 deliveries per month expected.
