Description
Registered Nurse – Medicine / Pediatrics
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Weekend and holiday requirements
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Job Summary
Provide nursing care to pediatric patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision. Responsibilities include patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring physiological data, assisting physicians, and coordinating care with families and support staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients and document responses to treatments and physician orders.
- Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Monitor patient physiological status and intervene as needed.
- Communicate care plans to patients and families, including at discharge.
- Delegate tasks to support staff.
- Float to various pediatric acute care units including surgical, behavioral health, medical specialty (GI, neuro, respiratory), hematology/oncology, step-down, and cardiac pediatrics.
- Provide care for tracheostomy and high-flow patients; familiar with infusion therapy.
- May float to NICU for low-acuity feeder growers (non-traditional NICU care).
- Must have Level 1 Trauma experience.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of pediatric medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Experience with tracheostomy care and high-flow oxygen therapy.
- Experience in pediatrics, including behavioral health, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, hematology/oncology, and step-down units.
- Experience with infusion therapy.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Some computer proficiency.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues.
Additional Information
- Must be able to float across multiple pediatric units as needed.
- Weekend and holiday work required.
