Job Summary

• Responsible for prescribing and coordinating nursing care in accordance with the New York State Nursing Practice Act.
• Collaborates with healthcare team members to address patient and family needs.
• Provides nursing care to patients ranging from newborn to adult.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through observation, interviews, and medical record review.
• Document nursing assessments covering psychosocial, environmental, and educational factors.
• Review and integrate data from other healthcare providers and medical records.
• Identify medical problems related to psychological/mental illness and medication use.
• Communicate findings with social workers, case managers, therapists, and physicians.
• Develop and adjust patient care plans based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and symptoms.
• Address patient education and learning needs; make referrals to other disciplines as appropriate.
• Perform nursing interventions including symptom identification, disease management, treatment modalities, and medication administration.
• Respond appropriately to medical, surgical, and critical emergencies using crisis intervention.
• Apply infection control procedures and protocols.
• Provide psychosocial support and health teaching to critically ill patients and their families.
• Ensure all procedures comply with established standards of care.
• Act as a patient advocate and report unusual occurrences or patient care incidents.
• Revise care plans based on evaluation of interventions and outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Physical Demands

• Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, and some repetitive motions.

Shift Details

• 2 days needed, 3 shifts of 12 hours each, with possible weekends.
• Role involves working with ICU patients in the Emergency Department.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of emergency nursing experience.
• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New York State.
• Strong critical thinking skills for patient assessment and intervention.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
