Job Summary
Provide diagnostic Computed Tomography (CT) services to inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients under the direction of a supervising radiologist. Ensure safe, prompt, efficient, and cost-effective CT imaging in accordance with established procedures and clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Position patients correctly using proper immobilization techniques.
- Perform optimal CT scans using appropriate technical factors, shielding, and protocols based on patient diagnosis and history.
- Use the lowest radiation dose possible following American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines.
- Perform CT angiography, 3D imaging, MIPS, VR, Vessel Analysis, and MPRs; post-process images using reconstruction software.
- Follow CT department workflow including patient identification, history acquisition, order verification, scanning, image transmission to PACS, documentation, and charge capture.
- Operate CT support equipment such as independent workstations, pressure injectors, PACS, and electronic medical record systems.
- Initiate IVs for contrast media administration following department policies and standard precautions.
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures and answering questions.
- Assist with patient transport and transfers on/off the CT table; monitor patient condition during procedures.
- Collaborate with radiologists to tailor protocols to patient exam requirements.
- Document patient history, exam appropriateness, contrast media use, charges, and any adverse reactions or incidents.
- Maintain licensure and complete continuing education requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Completion of a Radiologic Technology program or a college diploma in a related field
Certifications & Licensure
- Valid CT Technologist license in Illinois
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiography
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Registered in Radiography (R) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) or Registered in Computed Tomography (CT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of CT Technologist experience within the last year
