Description
Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Registered Nurse - Direct Care
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Summary
Provide nursing care under general supervision to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex on a medical/surgical unit. Care includes patients pre- or post-surgical, including those requiring stepdown/PCU level care.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients, documenting responses to nursing interventions and physician orders.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families.
- Make referrals for patient care needs and delegate tasks to support staff.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown unit within the last year.
- Experience caring for post-operative patients with tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT).
- Med/Surg experience in an acute care setting.
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program.
- Experience in ENT and/or transplant patient care.
Additional Skills
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Basic computer skills.
Patient Ratios
- Surgical patients: 5:1 ratio
- Stepdown area patients: 3:1 ratio
This position requires the ability to perform core nursing responsibilities and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare team members.
