Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Shift: ICU Float Pool (MICU/SICU/CVICU), Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts plus every other weekend
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Unit Description

  • The CVICU is a 28-bed cardiovascular recovery and intensive care unit focused on high-acuity cardiovascular patients.
  • Care involves pre-operative support and immediate post-operative recovery for cardiovascular procedures such as open heart surgery, heart transplants, ventricular assist device implantation, and various interventional and structural heart procedures.
  • Patients include those with acute cardiology and heart failure conditions, often managed with inotropic support or temporary ventricular devices.
  • Nurses manage advanced devices including Impellas, IABPs, ECMO, C-Mag, and soon Total Artificial Hearts.
  • Responsibilities include managing invasive lines, medications, hemodynamic monitoring, continuous dialysis, ultrafiltration machines, and ventricular assist devices.
  • The unit prioritizes patient safety and good outcomes, supported by leadership and interdisciplinary teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • CVICU experience with 1 year of experience
  • CVICU experience within the last year
  • MICU - Medical Intensive Care Unit experience
  • SICU - Surgical Intensive Care experience
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
