Registered Dietitian

Location: Jackson, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Flexible hours with start times between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM
Hours: 40 hours per week (typically 4 - 10-hour shifts or 5 - 8-hour shifts, or a combination)


Job Summary

Provide comprehensive nutritional care as a consultant and resource to the healthcare team. Responsibilities include nutritional assessment, diagnosis, intervention, counseling, education, and evaluation of patient outcomes. Collaborate with healthcare providers and educate patients and families on nutrition and special diets.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess nutritional needs using patient history, medical records, anthropometric measurements, biochemical data, and physical findings.
  • Identify and diagnose specific nutrition problems that can be addressed through intervention.
  • Implement individualized nutrition interventions including food/nutrient delivery (meals, supplements, enteral/parenteral nutrition), education, and counseling.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress and outcomes related to nutrition therapy.
  • Monitor food tolerances and ensure adequate nutritional intake.
  • Collaborate and communicate with healthcare providers, acting as a consultant and informing the team of relevant nutritional information.
  • Educate patients and significant others on nutrition and special diets during and after hospitalization.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of nutrition services in medical records.
  • Develop and conduct in-service classes, community education, and other nutrition-related programs.
  • Supervise dietetic interns/students, providing clinical teaching and mentoring.
  • Serve as liaison with culinary services to address patient and staff nutritional needs.
  • Maintain professional expertise through ongoing education and organizational activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) license in Michigan.
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as an RDN within the last year.
  • Experience in Rehabilitation and Long Term Acute Care (LTACH) settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Practice Certification.
  • ICU experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; understand medical terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, flexibility, and willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to customer service values including communication, ownership, motivation, sensitivity, excellence, respect, and understanding.
  • Ability to accept and respect diversity without judgment.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.

  • Demonstrates professional ethics and maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills in the field.
