Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Job Summary

Provide nursing care under general supervision to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex on a medical/surgical unit. This role involves caring for inpatients pre- or post-surgical services, including some stepdown/PCU patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned group of patients, including documentation of patient responses and changes in physician orders.
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
• Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
• Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
• Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families.
• Make referrals for patient care needs and delegate tasks to support staff.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Oklahoma
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• Experience caring for post-operative patients with new drains, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT)
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program.
• Experience in ENT and/or transplant patient care.

Patient Ratios

• Surgical patients: 5:1 ratio
• Stepdown area: 3:1 ratio

Additional Information

• This position requires working on a med/surg unit; candidates with OR experience only will not be accepted.
• The role includes care for patients in both general surgical and stepdown settings.
