Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular Surgery ICU

Location: Rochester, Minnesota

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Weekly Hours: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)

Job Overview

• Provide direct patient care, patient/family education, and coordinate transitions of care in a highly specialized adult cardiac surgery and heart/lung transplant intensive care unit.
• Function within a professional nursing practice model, accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
• Provide leadership through precepting, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
• Delegate patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability.
• Participate in committees or projects as needed.
• Floating to other units is required as needed.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.
• Day/Night rotation: 0700-1930 and 1900-0730.
• Straight night shifts: 1900-0730.
• Every 3rd weekend required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Minnesota.
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
• At least 1 year of recent travel nursing experience.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with ventricular assist devices (VAD), Impella, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and balloon pumps.

Specialty

• Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CV Surgery ICU)
• Acute care ICU nursing with a focus on cardiac surgery and heart/lung transplant postoperative management.

Additional Notes

• This role requires excellent communication skills, mentoring and teaching abilities.
• The RN will support professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs.
