Description
Registered Nurse Outpatient Oncology
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 11 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8-hour shifts, 4 days per week (typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with some variation in start times)
Hours per Week: 32 hours
Job Summary
- Interview patients to determine medical problems/conditions and document in EMR for physician review.
- Obtain and record vital signs including weight; assist physician with patient exams as needed.
- Explain procedures and treatments to patients to ensure cooperation and reduce apprehension.
- Manage lipids, proteins, and phone triage of patient concerns.
- Follow up on physician orders and lab requests; inform patients of test results and prescribed treatments.
- Provide patient education and document services performed in EMR for billing.
- Observe and record patient conditions and reactions; notify supervisor or physician of significant changes.
- Assist physician in clinical care of patients.
- Document nursing history and physical assessments; initiate individualized patient education plans.
- Abstract patient records via EMR; occasionally assist with chart prep.
- Use EMR functions such as tasking, messaging, and disease management.
- Use Centricity and other software to support nursing functions.
- Respond to emergency situations following nursing standards and protocols.
- Maintain crash cart and defibrillator.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum of 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- Infusion experience in oncology required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Education & Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (AD or Diploma accepted).
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the State Board of Nursing in Ohio.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
