Respiratory Therapist II - Pediatrics
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Provide advanced respiratory care under department management and established policies. Deliver competent patient care including airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen and aerosol therapy, and respiratory procedures to assess and treat respiratory dysfunction in pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage airway care including aspiration, tracheostomy care and changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
- Administer respiratory care treatments such as aerosol medication delivery, pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures.
- Transport pediatric and neonatal patients per protocol when working with specialized air care teams.
- Perform advanced respiratory procedures including umbilical artery/vein catheterization, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and blood glucose monitoring as needed.
- Manage extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for cardiac and respiratory support when applicable.
- Provide ventilator care including setup, monitoring, specialized mode management, and weaning techniques.
- May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Serve as a resource to other staff and maintain/improve job knowledge and skills.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pediatric Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
- Respiratory Therapist experience
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- At least one of the following certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT), or an advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab
- All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body
