Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Rehabilitation - Contract

Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, every other weekend
Hours per Week: Approximately 34.5 hours (3 shifts of 12 hours)
Average Unit Census: 21-25 beds per unit


Job Summary

Provide patient-centered nursing care in a rehabilitation setting, incorporating evidence-based practice and critical thinking. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans. Deliver care that supports patient education, safety, and quality outcomes while maintaining therapeutic relationships with patients and families.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver nursing care based on professional practice models and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Facilitate patient-centered care practices such as bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, and medication reviews.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while identifying barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
  • Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards or gaps in best practices.
  • Document nursing care accurately to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management to ensure adequate resources for patient care.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Professional Development

  • Support a positive environment for clinical colleagues, patients, and healthcare team members.
  • Advance clinical competence and nursing expertise.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication.
  • Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
  • Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils and committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
  • Minimum 2 years of rehabilitation nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in a rehabilitation setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Medical-surgical nursing experience
