Description
Registered Nurse - Radiation Oncology (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (5 days x 7.5 hours)
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care to patients in a Radiation Oncology outpatient setting. Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking and nursing process.
- Deliver nursing care integrating assessment and intervention skills.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Establish therapeutic relationships respecting patient values, preferences, and cultural diversity.
- Facilitate patient-centered care activities such as bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, and medication reviews.
- Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate when necessary.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards or gaps in best practices.
- Document nursing care accurately to support quality and performance initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management to ensure adequate resources for patient care.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence and demonstrate lifelong learning and innovation.
- Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils and committees.
- Uphold ethical principles in patient and family decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in an outpatient oncology setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
