Description
Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Type: Medical/Surgical unit with mixed Stepdown (SD) and Acute Care (MS) patients
Patient Population:
- Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
- Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
- Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery
Job Description
- Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments, noting changes in physician orders
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
- Obtain and monitor physiological data, observe patient conditions, and intervene as necessary
- Administer medications, regulate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products
- Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families during hospitalization and at discharge
- Inform patients and families about hospital procedures
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
- Delegate tasks to support staff
- May work on either Medical/Surgical or Stepdown patients depending on unit needs and nurse availability
- Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
- Minimum 1 year of Medical/Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program
- Experience with ENT and/or transplant patients preferred
- Transplant experience preferred
- Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- This is NOT a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) position
- Nurses from short-staffed or ICU units may be floated to work Stepdown patients based on acuity and skill set
- The unit cares for a complex patient population requiring close monitoring and timely interventions
