Radiation Therapist

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Job Summary

• Administer radiation therapy according to physician instructions and patient treatment plans.
• Operate and adjust radiation therapy equipment, including data entry and dosage regulation.
• Assist physicians, radiation oncologists, and clinical physicists in preparing radiation treatment plans based on patient condition and anatomy.
• Construct patient immobilization devices as ordered.
• Maintain patient and billing records, including radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient reactions.
• Perform routine and complex radiation therapy treatments such as total body irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, and low/high brachytherapy.
• Prepare equipment and treatment rooms for patients.
• Use appropriate protective equipment and procedures to ensure safety of patients, self, and others.
• Perform quality assurance procedures in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
• Provide clinical instruction and evaluation for student radiation therapists.

Work Schedule

• Shifts vary within clinic hours (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM).
• Typical shift length: 12 hours per day, approximately 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

• Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Graduation from a Radiation Therapy Technologist program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or approved by the Council of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Radiation Therapist, with experience within the last year required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Elekta equipment preferred.
