Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced respiratory care to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control cardiopulmonary system deficiencies or abnormalities under physician orders. Acts as a resource to CRT staff and may handle special clinical projects or assignments as needed.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures, including obtaining arterial gases.
• Oversee and troubleshoot respiratory equipment for optimal patient care.
• Initiate respiratory protocols and interventions based on assessments.
• Administer medications safely and timely; evaluate and re-evaluate effects per protocol.
• Communicate patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments.
• Monitor assigned patients’ overall condition and make appropriate care recommendations.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
• Complete documentation accurately according to departmental standards.
• Monitor supplies and equipment; report issues as needed.
• Utilize time effectively to meet productivity standards.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and departmental meetings.
• Promote respiratory care profession; serve as a resource, consultant, and mentor.
• Participate in research and quality improvement activities to develop patient care standards.
• May float to other departments within competency.
• May be required to be on-call during scheduled shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education

• Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Current state license as Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
