Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown Unit

Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)


Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to a designated group of patients and their significant others, based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and the nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model and allocate resources efficiently.

Patient Experience

  • Role model Relationship Centered Care through activities such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery for patient/family concerns and escalate as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
  • Support staff in evidence-based practices to improve patient experience.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers or opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills and knowledge essential to quality and safety.
  • Implement process improvement strategies based on institutional and evidence-based standards.
  • Participate in peer and institutional review processes.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
  • Contribute to compliance with quality and safety measures.
  • Apply high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors and maintain a safe environment.
  • Escalate safety hazards or practice gaps following institutional protocols.
  • Document nursing practice using institutional information technology to support quality and performance improvement.
