Job Description

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will provide and manage patient care using professional nursing knowledge and skills. Responsibilities include:

• Promoting evidence-based practice through nursing processes, protocols, and procedures
• Assessing patient status via interview, observation, and physical assessment
• Developing individualized care plans collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare team
• Implementing interventions to achieve expected patient outcomes
• Continuously evaluating and documenting patient progress throughout the shift
• Modifying care plans based on ongoing evaluation
• Completing required documentation including patient charts and event reports
• Demonstrating professional accountability and pursuing continuing self-development
• Operating and troubleshooting technical equipment as needed
• Maintaining current knowledge and skills in evidence-based nursing practice
• Supporting professional development of self and team members through teaching and knowledge sharing
• Applying practical problem-solving for patient moving and handling, including safe use of lift equipment
• Obtaining and performing bedside lab testing and quality control per provider orders and hospital policies
• Coordinating interdisciplinary patient care and collaborating with team members
• Analyzing clinical situations systematically and acting to meet or exceed patient needs
• Recognizing when to seek assistance and utilizing resources promptly
• Managing non-complex and some complex patient assignments with turnover
• Prioritizing work based on patient condition changes and interruptions
• Delegating tasks appropriately and providing goal-focused shift reports
• Advocating for patients with physicians when necessary
• Utilizing effective communication and teamwork strategies to promote high team performance and optimal patient outcomes
• Adapting teaching strategies to meet patient/family age-specific needs and comprehension levels

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of applicable nursing experience
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
• Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, web browsing)
• Multicultural sensitivity
• Strong critical thinking and independent judgment skills
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Licensure: Valid Illinois RN license in good standing
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
