Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Johnson City, New York

Job Summary

• Perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests under limited supervision.
• Monitor lab processes and verify results in a timely manner.
• With 6 or more years of experience, may supervise daily activities of the laboratory section in the absence of the supervisor.
• Follow policies and procedures from UHS Hospitals, NYSDOH, CDC, and Infection Control guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct clinical analyses for routine, special, and automated tests; observe reactions and interpret results.
• Recognize abnormal values and take appropriate action.
• Perform, document, and troubleshoot quality control.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments.
• Investigate and resolve technical problems or escalate as needed.
• Operate key analyzers with proper training.
• Verify and post results in Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Obtain laboratory specimens (blood, urine, other body fluids) directly from patients as trained.
• Participate in training of Medical Technologist (MT) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) students and new employees.
• Evaluate and implement new testing methods and procedures.
• Act in a supervisory capacity with 6+ years of experience when supervisor is absent.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Experience

• Minimum 6 years of experience in clinical laboratory technology (higher value from job description).
• Up to 3 years of direct experience mentioned, but 6 years is the overriding requirement for supervisory duties.

Prior Travel Experience

• Not specified / not required.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory technology or equivalent.
• Grandfathered New York State Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT).

Required Certifications & Licensure

• New York State Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
• Proof of grandfathering exception if applicable.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).

Preferred Experience

• 1 year experience working in a clinical laboratory.

Preferred Certifications

• ASCP Specialty Certification (issued by New York State).
