Job Responsibilities

• Assess patients on admission and reassess regularly, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
• Establish and update individualized plans of care based on patient data and reassessments
• Administer medications (oral, topical, parenteral) following the 7 rights and document effectiveness and side effects
• Perform treatments and procedures adhering to nursing best practices, hospital policies, sterile technique, and patient privacy
• Document patient care, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress accurately and legibly
• Educate patients and families based on assessed needs
• Interpret diagnostic data and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to healthcare team members using SBAR communication
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning
• Manage patients in restraints according to policy and understand application criteria
• Follow National Patient Safety Goals and hospital policies including infection control, use of two patient identifiers, and blood transfusion protocols
• Understand and participate in hospital emergency and disaster plans (Code Blue, Code Pink, Code Red, Haz Mat, etc.)
• Demonstrate knowledge of pediatric medications, dose calculations, and high-alert medication policies
• Recognize and intervene in basic cardiac dysrhythmias
• Use bedside monitoring equipment and manage arterial lines (setup, calibration, interpretation, discontinuation)
• Understand legal issues related to minors (consents, CPS, court custody)
• Accurately assess and intervene for critically ill pediatric patients
• Communicate effectively with patients’ parents and children
• Document appropriately on PICU flow sheets, care plans, medication administration records, and progress notes
• Manage ventilator-dependent patients and understand specialty bed use
• Use Alaris infusion pumps and Pyxis medication access systems
