Job Description
- Maintain a sterile environment by applying principles of asepsis.
- Demonstrate competency in technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and knowledge base.
- Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients following department policies.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating supplies and equipment for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and self.
- Adhere to safety and legal requirements and hospital/unit policies.
- Charge for equipment and supplies.
- Participate in room turnover and setup.
- Maintain and clean equipment; identify items needing repair.
- Perform sterilization, disinfection, and document loads per policy.
- Assist with obtaining supplies, equipment, positioning devices, and patient positioning for procedures.
- Perform scrubbing duties, including teaching classes for medical students, residents, and other students.
- Efficiently turn over OR rooms and set up for the next patient.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 1+ years of surgical tech experience.
- Ability to independently scrub basic surgical procedures.
- Problem-solving skills related to surgical procedures.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology.
- Basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers as related to surgical patient care.
- Knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork.
- Application of sterile technique principles during surgical procedures.
Education Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology
OR - Certificate of completion of a Surgical Technology program
Certifications & Licensure
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- IDPH Fingerprinting
