Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Order Filling: Accurately and promptly fill medication orders for pharmacist review and dispensing. Prepare extemporaneous preparations and routinely stock all areas. Replenish carts, trays, boxes, and kits. Document and communicate any issues on patient profiles.
• Distribution/Returns: Handle medication requests professionally via phone, window, fax, and computer. Deliver medications using pneumatic tubes, hand-delivery, and courier. Manage returns from nursing stations.
• Teamwork: Support departmental goals by assisting staff and being flexible with roles. Comply with coverage guidelines and support strategic goals.
• Sterile Preparations: Prepare IVs aseptically and efficiently. Manage batched IV medications, document properly, and ensure timely checking and storage. Demonstrate knowledge of IV equipment, sterile technique, total parenteral nutrition, and safe handling of hazardous drugs.
• Automated Dispensing Machines: Accurately fill machines, fix issues, deliver discrepancy reports, remove expired medications, and perform monthly inspections. Handle reconciliation and problem resolution.
• Repackaging/Inventory Control: Repackage oral medications, ensure barcoding, check expirations, manage recalled medications, and maintain proper storage.
• Performance Improvement/Customer Satisfaction: Provide courteous and professional service. Handle issues independently. Participate in performance improvement and cost-saving initiatives. Collaborate with pharmacists to maintain workflow.

Requirements

• Education: High School diploma or GED required.
• Certifications:

  • Current active registration with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy (required).
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification preferred.
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Oncology/infusion center experience preferred.
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.
