Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Sonographer - Maternal Fetal Medicine
Location: Rochester, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel (Clinical-Allied-Travel)
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Job Summary
Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures autonomously for patients of all ages under physician supervision. This includes inpatient, outpatient, portable, and operating room examinations. Use advanced knowledge to produce, assess, and evaluate ultrasound images and related data, exercising independent judgment and providing preliminary technical findings to physicians.
Responsibilities
- Confirm imaging orders for completeness and accuracy.
- Review patient history and clinical data for medical necessity.
- Contact ordering physician if test justification is inadequate.
- Perform diagnostic procedures independently with minimal supervision.
- Think critically and make judgments to proceed with appropriate actions.
- Communicate preliminary findings to Radiologists and Residents.
- Participate in professional development activities such as case presentations and department committees.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, pushing equipment for long periods, and assisting with patient lifting using mechanical devices.
- Use isolation precaution techniques and personal protective equipment as needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong communication skills with patients, physicians, and medical professionals.
- Ability to communicate preliminary findings effectively.
- Physical stamina for standing, walking, and equipment handling.
- Knowledge of Non-Imaging Vascular (NIV), Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) studies, Prostate Ultrasound, and/or CT/PET/MRI fusion is advantageous but not required.
Education & Certification Requirements
Education:
- Associate's degree if graduated from a non-CAAHEP-accredited sonography program.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Certifications:
- Must be ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN), and vascular technology (RVT).
- Registry-eligible candidates must obtain ARDMS registration in:
- Abdomen within 6 months of employment
- OB/GYN within 12 months of employment
- RVT within 18 months of employment
- CPR/BLS certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Ultrasound Sonography in Maternal Fetal Medicine
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum experience consistent with ARDMS registration requirements.
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates hired before February 15, 2018, must meet previous graduation requirements from an accredited sonography program.
