Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist II
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide advanced respiratory care under department management and according to established policies and procedures.
- Administer airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy respiratory dysfunction.
- Perform standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures.
- Manage airway care including aspiration, tracheostomy care and changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
- May perform pulmonary function testing as needed.
- May transport pediatric and neonatal patients per protocol.
- May perform advanced procedures such as UAC, UVC, IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, and blood glucose monitoring as directed.
- May manage ECMO for cardiac and respiratory support.
- May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform all aspects of ventilator care including setup, verification, monitoring, and weaning techniques.
- Maintain and improve job knowledge and skills; function independently with minimal supervision.
- Serve as a resource to other staff based on experience.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
Required Education
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Depending on practice area, must have at least one of the following certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- CPFT (Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist)
- OR advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab.
- All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures.
- Ability to document clinical information accurately.
- Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, family members, and staff.
- Mathematical skills including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Strong reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical situations.
