Job Opportunity: Delivery Room Technician

Location: Johnson City, New York

Job Summary

• Observe and practice sterile technique under general direction
• Maintain asepsis and assist the surgeon as needed
• Participate actively in patient care and safety
• Operate as a team member of the OR staff and use OR supplies conservatively

Key Responsibilities

• Follow Infection Control policies and demonstrate expertise in surgical scrub technique
• Adhere to sterile technique principles preoperatively and intra-operatively
• Assist the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments during procedures
• Anticipate surgeon’s needs for instruments, sutures, and equipment
• Maintain an organized operative field and keep instruments clean and properly placed
• Keep accurate counts of sponges, tapes, needles, dissectors, and instruments
• Prepare for cases by assembling supplies and equipment according to preference cards
• Care for instruments and supplies after each case
• Provide a safe surgical environment by identifying potential hazards and assisting in preoperative equipment checks
• Display knowledge of potential hazards in the OR (equipment, chemicals, gases)
• Serve as a resource for new OR personnel and utilize experienced OR staff as a resource
• Assist in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under surgeon’s direction
• Handle and identify specimens according to policy
• Expedite efficient turnover of the OR between cases
• Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous Operating Room experience

Education & Certification Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must meet NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law OR
• Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces OR
• Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with nationally accredited credentials
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross)
