Job Description

• Perform thorough, systematic, and accurate patient assessments across all age groups (Pediatric to Geriatric).
• Deliver competent and appropriate nursing care in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
• Demonstrate knowledge and skill in emergency equipment and procedures.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation of nursing processes and patient progress, including patient education.
• Uphold professional practice responsibilities and adhere to policies and procedures.
• Promote patient and family-centered care, maintaining confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
• Follow National Patient Safety Goals, including Universal Protocol and patient identification standards.
• Use safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
• Understand conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and equipment related to surgical patients and anesthesia care.
• Individualize patient care based on procedure and anesthesia type, assessing patient reactions and understanding.
• Take responsibility and accountability for prioritizing and directing patient care within the perioperative team.
• Provide pre-operative and postoperative patient education and assessments.
• Support timely completion and evaluation of Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders.

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of PACU or Critical Care experience.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) or CPAN (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• As defined by Occupational Safety/OMS standards.
