Job Description

• Maintain a sterile environment by applying principles of asepsis.
• Demonstrate competency in technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and knowledge base.
• Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients following department policies.
• Assist in organizing and coordinating supplies and equipment for efficiency.
• Initiate appropriate intraoperative behavior unique to first assisting.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and self.
• Adhere to safety and legal requirements at hospital and unit levels.
• Apply knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology.
• Perform scrubbing duties and assist in room turnover.
• Serve as a preceptor and provide training to medical students, residents, and other students.
• Assist nurses in planning patient care.
• Operate autoclave sterilization units effectively.
• Assist surgeons during procedures (e.g., suctioning, tying, camera holding, retracting).
• Knowledgeable of closure techniques and able to perform closure of all layers of skin.
• Assist with supplies, equipment, and patient positioning for procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.
• Certified Surgical Technician (CST) through NBSTSA.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through NCCSA.

Experience

• No specific years of experience required.
• No prior travel experience required.
