Registered Nurse (Procedural)

Job Summary

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a specialty procedural area. Responsible for an assigned group of patients, documenting patient responses, assisting physicians with examinations and minor procedures, monitoring physiological data, administering medications, and managing intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers competent patient care and communicates care plans with patients and families. Oversees treatment provided by technicians and delegates tasks to support staff.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for assigned patients
• Document patient responses and changes in physician orders
• Assist physicians in examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
• Monitor and intervene based on patients’ physiological data
• Administer prescribed medications and manage IV infusions and blood products
• Provide competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families
• Oversee and delegate tasks to support staff
• Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license appropriate for the specialty area
• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
• Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing specialized care
• May require completion of orientation and ability to function independently in the assigned specialty prior to assignment
