Respiratory Therapist

Location: Grand Junction, Colorado

Job Summary

Provide advanced-level respiratory care to patients to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities under physician orders. Serve as a resource to CRT staff and may lead special clinical projects or assignments as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures, including obtaining arterial gases.
• Oversee and troubleshoot respiratory equipment for optimal patient care.
• Initiate respiratory protocols and interventions based on assessments.
• Administer medications safely and evaluate their effects according to protocol.
• Communicate patient progress and condition to staff, physicians, and other departments.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
• Complete documentation accurately and maintain departmental standards.
• Monitor supplies and equipment, reporting issues as needed.
• Utilize time effectively to meet productivity standards, including during low census periods.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and departmental meetings.
• Act as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff within the department.
• Participate in research and quality improvement activities to develop patient care standards.
• May float to other departments within competency and qualifications.
• May be required to be on-call during scheduled shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Experience in respiratory therapy, patient education, patient care, life support, care planning, and patient care delivery
• Strong critical thinking and documentation skills
• Ability to follow protocols and participate in quality improvement initiatives
