Job Opportunity: Certified Medical Coder - Outpatient & Emergency Department

Location: Bronx, New York
Employment Type: Non-Clinical
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Description

  • Perform medical coding in an acute care setting, focusing on outpatient and emergency department cases.
  • Utilize proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and Encoder software.
  • Apply knowledge of coding guidelines, payor guidelines, and federal billing guidelines.
  • Understand anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to accurately code medical records.
  • Research coding-related issues and provide coder training as needed.
  • Experience with CCS certification and familiarity with 3M/HDS coding application is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum of one year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
  • Certification such as CCS, CCP, or RHIT
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Proficiency with coding tools/applications, including Encoder
  • Competence in coder training
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
