Job Summary: 
-Performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure.
-This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management.
-It is expected that Surgery Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices.
-In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.

Job Responsibilities: 
-Maintains accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria. 
-Maintains the sterile field and ensures a safe environment. 
-Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes. 
-Prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure. 
-May assist with sterile processing. 
-Assists the surgeon(s) during the procedure while staying within the ORT scope of practice. 
-Can identify emergency situations and exercises judgement when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies. 
-Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure upon completion of the procedure.

Required Skills & Experience: 
-Demonstrates the ability to maintain a sterile field and ensure environmental safety. 
-Demonstrates the ability to recognize and address sharps and fire safety processes. 
-Demonstrates knowledge of surgical services. 
-Demonstrates knowledge of sterile processing. 
-Demonstrates the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. 
-Has experience in surgeries support within the surgical team. 
-Has experience in life support situations related to surgical care. 
-Has experience in sterile field management. 
-Has experience in sterilization processes and requirements. 
-Has experience in supervision within surgical services (within ORT scope). 
 
Preferred Skills & Experience: 
-N/A 

Required Education: 
-Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program. 
OR 
-Graduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past Six (6) months (not eligible for Tech in Surgery exam). 
OR 
-Two (2) years of scrub tech experience in hospital/military surgical services within the last Three (3) years. 
 
Preferred Education: 
-N/A 
 
Required Certifications & Licensure: 
-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. 
 
Preferred Certifications & Licensure: 
-Active National Certification as an ORT in Surgery. 
OR 
-Certified Surgical Technologist.
