Sterile Processing Tech

Location: Grand Junction, Colorado

Contract Length: Approximately 16 weeks (115 days)

Job Summary

• Assemble, clean, disinfect, sterilize, and store procedure trays, surgical trays, and equipment.
• Assemble, distribute, and deliver disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts, and supplies to Operating Room, Nursing Units, Ancillary Departments, and Clinics.
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment.
• Disassemble carts and follow Universal Precautions for decontamination.
• Sterilize, disinfect durable medical equipment and instruments; package clean supplies and instruments; maintain records for all instruments; transport sterilized items to the floor.
• Assemble sterilized instruments and recheck for cleanliness and impairment; properly check power equipment.
• Ensure easy instrument tracking by following labeling processes, using engraver, and reporting/documenting missing instruments and implants replaced in trays.
• Communicate equipment and instrument inventory status with Central Processing staff and Surgery Charge Nurse, including order status and back orders.
• Respond to emergency situations by ensuring emergency, trauma, and add-on cases are properly supplied and delivered timely to the Operating Room.
• Utilize applications and technology to facilitate accurate record keeping in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
• Provide on-the-job training to newly hired associates in the department.
• May be required to work overtime, float to other departments within scope of competency, and be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to perform all essential duties satisfactorily.
• Regular attendance on-site during scheduled business hours or shifts.
• Effective and diplomatic communication skills within a multi-functional team.
• Experience and understanding in computer use and ability to learn software relevant to Sterile Processing.
• Ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
• Availability to work nights and/or weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in hospital or clinic operating room settings.
