Staff Nurse Specialty Care

Location: Johnson City, New York
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day Rotational (4 shifts per week, 10 hours each)
Hours: 40 hours per week (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care focused on protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering.
• Responsible for compliance with nursing standards, professional development, and patient-centered care.
• Promote a caring and healing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
• Serve as primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely using pharmacology knowledge.
• Manage productivity and resource utilization including staffing and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies.
• Participate in Nursing Shared Governance, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Support learning for new employees and students.
• Perform Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator duties when assigned.
• Participate in Clinical Ladder Program as expertise develops.

Specialty Focus

• Cardiothoracic surgery primarily, with possible coverage of general surgery including minimally invasive, robotic, gynecology, genitourinary, ENT, and orthopedic cases.

Call Requirements

• 3 to 4 call shifts per week, extending from end of shift until next scheduled shift.
• Call coverage up to every other weekend (Friday after shift through Monday 6 AM).

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
• Operating Room (OR) experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
