Certified Medical Coder - Outpatient & Emergency Department

Location

  • Bronx, New York
  • Remote work after 1–2 weeks of onsite training

Contract Length

  • 8 weeks

Work Schedule

  • 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week
  • Flexible start with onsite training transitioning to remote work

Job Description

  • Perform medical coding in an acute care setting, focusing on outpatient and emergency department (ED) cases
  • Utilize coding systems including ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and Encoder software
  • Apply knowledge of coding guidelines, payor guidelines, and federal billing regulations
  • Understand anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to accurately code medical records
  • Research coding-related issues and provide coder training as needed
  • Use 3M/HDS coding application and EPIC system proficiently

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Professional (CCP) certification from AHIMA, RHIA, or RHIT
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Proficient with 3M coding software
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding system
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
