Job Description
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages.
- Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
- Perform patient transfers with assistance as needed.
- Use safe and appropriate body mechanics to prevent injury.
- Design and adjust plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge plans.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers.
- Evaluate clinical findings to determine therapy diagnoses and outcomes.
- Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
- Screen patients to determine the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
- Utilize support personnel according to legal and ethical guidelines; monitor and provide feedback.
- Document evaluations, plans of care, treatment modifications, and patient responses according to policy.
- Implement functional intervention plans considering patients’ functional and emotional needs.
- Modify approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
- Use standardized outcome measures to accurately reflect functional performance.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and significant others throughout rehabilitation; provide education and family training.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians per regulatory standards.
- Communicate patient status, activity/transfer recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs with the medical team.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
