Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech - Rad Gen)
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Shift: Day
Hours: 10 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Perform diagnostic general radiological procedures using various imaging equipment to assist in diagnosing diseases and injuries.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform radiographic procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams according to accrediting bodies, manufacturer guidelines, and department protocols.
- Review cases with radiologists as appropriate.
- Review labs, patient history, and radiology orders for completeness, accuracy, and medical necessity.
- Administer IV contrast, oral contrast, and rectal contrast when appropriate, including performing veni-puncture and using existing IV lines.
- Screen patients for pregnancy and perform pregnancy testing if applicable.
- Recognize and respond to adverse or allergic reactions.
- Critique imaging quality, positioning, technical factors, and alignment to meet acceptable standards.
- Transfer and verify image data in PACS and provide necessary medical history for radiologist interpretation.
- Maintain imaging equipment and workplace environment, including supply inventories and reporting malfunctions promptly.
- Ensure patient, visitor, and environmental safety; report safety events immediately, including near misses.
- Assist in instruction of students and new staff as needed.
- May perform duties of Rad Tech Lead or Imaging Coordinator in their absence.
- Assist other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.
- May perform duties in other modalities within the department if licensed/certified.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiology Technologist license in Illinois
- Radiology Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association
- Radiography (R)(ARRT) certification
- Associate's Degree in a Related Field or Certificate in Radiologic Technology
Additional Information
- Cross-training in other imaging modalities may be required; secondary registries are not required unless mandated by compliance or accrediting bodies.
- Meets productivity levels established by department benchmarking.
