Clinical Technician, Dialysis
Location: Southfield, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with potential to convert based on performance and availability)
Shift: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
Unit Details:
- 24 chair dialysis unit
- Average patient ratio: 1:4-6 depending on staffing
- Uses Fresenius T 2008 dialysis machines
- Time EMR system utilized
Job Summary
Under nursing supervision, responsible for monitoring and providing direct care to patients undergoing hemodialysis. Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and effective dialysis treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor patients continuously during dialysis and communicate relevant information to team members
- Respond to emergency situations promptly
- Reinforce patient education related to dialysis care
- Document patient care and observations accurately (e.g., flow sheets, incident reports)
- Follow unit-specific operational procedures (e.g., call-in times, breaks)
- Maintain respectful and dignified treatment of patients and families
- Adhere to infection control policies and procedures (hand washing, use of PPE)
- Assist in minimizing waste in the unit
- Monitor and adjust dialysis therapy within scope of practice, considering age-specific patient needs
- Perform technical tasks such as cannulation, machine setup, and disinfection
- Administer normal saline, anticoagulants (heparin, sodium citrate), and 2% xylocaine intradermally as ordered by physician and under nursing supervision
- Perform blood drawing procedures
- May be required to take on-call shifts in acute settings
- Maintain a neat, safe, and compliant work environment
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and medical leadership
- Participate in ongoing training, in-services, and process improvement initiatives
- Adhere to confidentiality, HIPAA, and safety/privacy requirements
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Minimum 2 years of dialysis technician experience, including experience within the last year
- Current Dialysis Clinical Technician Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Fresenius dialysis machines and Time record system
- Previous dialysis experience
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required
Working Conditions
- Frequent standing and walking
- Bending, stretching, lifting, and pushing required
- Exposure to hazardous wastes and materials possible
- Use of computer systems required
