Shift and Hours

• Night shift
• 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM)
• Approximately 42 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Rotation options: 36/48 hours or straight 48 hours per week

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care under direct supervision of the Director and charge nurse.
• Implement nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Care for patients across antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
• Document all care and pertinent information in the medical record.
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, and healthcare team members.
• Maintain professional appearance and communication standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and operate labor and delivery equipment including:

  • Fetal monitors and telemetry fetal monitoring
  • Fetal scalp electrodes
  • Intrauterine pressure catheters
  • Epidural pumps
  • Radiant warmers
  • Delivery lights
  • Patient IV infusion pumps
• Apply critical thinking to recognize maternal and fetal complications.
• Anticipate needs of physicians and anesthesia during emergencies.
• Safely position laboring patients and use leg stirrups during vaginal delivery.
• Assist physicians with vacuum extractor and forceps deliveries.
• Recognize and intervene in delivery complications such as:

  • Shoulder dystocia
  • Hemorrhage
  • Hypertensive crisis
• Reposition patients under epidural anesthesia using safety measures.
• Provide safe care for mother/infant couplet.
• Recognize compromised newborns and perform emergency interventions.
• Educate and support breastfeeding using established guidelines.
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Demonstrate positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation.
• Adhere to safety culture, compliance standards, and facility policies.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Ability to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Tolerate physically demanding tasks related to patient repositioning.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation certification
• S.T.A.B.L.E. certification
• Fetal Heart Monitor Course certification
• Proficient in telemetry fetal monitoring, fetal scalp electrode use, and intrauterine pressure catheter use
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records system
• Experience managing 10-17 deliveries per month
