Mammographer I
Location:
- Work is typically performed in outpatient environments across OU Health locations.
Job Summary:
The Mammographer I performs specialized breast imaging services on OU Health patients to aid providers in the diagnosis, care, treatment, and surveillance of breast conditions, defects, and/or diseases. This position is intended for those gaining experience as a Mammographer or experienced imaging professionals who wish to begin a career in Mammography.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider under general supervision.
- Ensure testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a patient-centric focus.
- Prepare patients for procedures and review clinical history to align with provider-ordered tests.
- Respond to inquiries from patients and family members, providing clear information regarding diagnostic testing and result timelines.
- Collaborate with team members across OU Health, including providers, to deliver exceptional patient care.
- Utilize specialized mammography equipment and techniques to perform diagnostic procedures per established guidelines.
- Conduct post-testing quality reviews to ensure all required elements are completed and documented per departmental and accreditation standards.
- Transfer images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enter technical data/findings, and prepare studies for physician reporting.
- Perform quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting, and equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure technical quality of testing meets established protocols and accreditation standards.
- Assist with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as requested.
- Support academic partnerships by engaging in teaching radiologic program students.
- Serve as a departmental preceptor to mentor new or less experienced team members.
- Assist with onboarding new team members.
- Support inventory tasks to ensure supplies are available.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Skill in applying principles of mammography and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, patient positioning, and medical ethics.
- Foundational knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, basic mammography principles, and/or radiologic technology.
- Ability to apply core mammography theory, practice, and techniques to perform examinations, post-processing analysis, and documentation with general supervision.
- Clear and respectful verbal and written communication skills to exchange information with patients, families, and team members.
- Ability to prioritize and complete clinical and non-clinical tasks with guidance, progressively developing independence in managing routine responsibilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain composed in stressful situations with guidance, progressively developing effective coping and prioritization skills.
Required Education:
- Graduate of an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARRT.
- Completion of a JRCERT-accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements.
Required Certification & Licensure:
- Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
- ARRT(RT)(M) required within 1 year of hire.
- Must be a registered Mammographer.
