Pathology Assistant (000145)

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician practicing anatomic pathology, the Pathology Assistant is responsible for processing and documenting specimens, collecting and preparing samples for pathology analysis, and conducting tissue and fluid examinations as needed. The role also involves assisting with postmortem examinations, maintaining laboratory organization, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards to improve patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Pathologists’ Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in preparing gross tissue sections, performing postmortem examinations, and maintaining laboratory inventory.
Proficiency in calibrating, operating, and troubleshooting medical equipment.
Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and infection prevention procedures.

Additional Information:

Adherence to protocols, techniques, and standards related to the gross room.
Ability to photograph surgical specimens and maintain quality standards for pathology specimen photographs.
Experience in accessioning, labeling, storing, and disposing of specimens.
