Lab Cytologist
Job Summary
The Cytologist participates in specialized and complex technical tasks involved in the processing and screening of cytologic specimens to detect evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions, ensuring the efficient and accurate testing of patient specimens. Responsibilities include screening slides of clinical specimens (both gynecologic and non-gynecologic) for evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions, marking abnormalities, rendering diagnoses, and determining cases for quality control or subsequent review with a pathologist. The Cytologist also performs various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols. Additionally, the role involves performing rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) using a tele-pathology system in the collection, processing, and immediate evaluation of Fine Needle Aspirations.
Required Qualifications
- One of the following: Bachelor’s Degree or completion of a Cytotechnology Program with a Certificate of completion.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - Cytologist (CT).
- BLS - AHA certification.
