Surgical Technologist II - CVOR
Job Summary
To handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during congenital heart surgery procedures, assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in an age-appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN). Responsibilities include preparing the CV operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of the patient and the surgical procedure, applying knowledge of surgical procedures to anticipate the needs of the surgeon, maintaining correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments, assisting in the care and labeling of specimens, and participating in the Universal Protocol to ensure patient safety.
Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of an educational program for surgical technologists, including training programs in the U.S. military or Public Health Service.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST-SUR) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or TECH Surgery Certified (TSC-NCCT) by the National Center for Competency Testing.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a surgical technologist with experience in two or more surgical specialties.
• Prior experience scrubbing cardiac bypass/pump cases.
Preferred Qualifications
• Cardiothoracic experience.
• Knowledge of a wide variety of instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and surgical procedures specific to an operating room.
• Ability to operate sterilizers, microscopes, and surgical equipment related to surgical specialties, such as fiberoptic equipment, electrocautery units, suction machines, orthopedic tourniquets, and air-powered equipment.
• Effective communication skills and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
• Commitment to meeting customer needs.
Additional Information
• Shift: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM with a day off during the week.
• On-call is a requirement.
