Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team members, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for handling surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during general surgical procedures. This role ensures a thorough understanding of the assigned surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Additional responsibilities include patient preparation, transport, building services, and assisting the surgical care team with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs. The Surgical Technologist responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.

Required Qualifications:
• Physical ability to lift and move patients.
• Physical ability to push, pull, and/or lift case carts, instrument trays, and equipment.
• Ability to work in a patient care area environment, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, acute patient conditions, and hazardous gases.
• Prolonged standing and walking.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Current BLS certification or ability to become BLS certified within one month of start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
• One year of Surgical Technologist experience.
• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program.

Additional Information:
• The Surgical Technologist may train or precept new employees in the role within core assignments.
• Participation in ongoing department-specific educational programs and audit monitors is expected.
• The role includes assisting leadership in adjusting par levels for efficient supply management.
• The Surgical Technologist supports administrative and department governance changes to job role and operations.
