The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) RN is integral to providing exceptional patient care throughout a full range of procedures, including open heart - coronary bypass, valve surgery, and congenital heart defects.

The Cardiovascular Operating Room at Presbyterian Hospital offers a fast-paced environment with high-functioning technology and a multidisciplinary approach in surgical cases. Our three dedicated heart rooms and one hybrid room serve both pediatric and adult patients. Our procedures range from Open Heart Surgery (coronary bypass, valve surgery, congenital heart defects), Transfemoral Aortic Valve Replacements  and Thoracic Cases.

Responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients during a shift. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently integrating a standards-based framework model

Additional Job Duties:

Assist with individual patient needs, actions taken and patient responses.

Coordinates patients care through collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team.

Performs assessments as per unit standards and documents on appropriate database/assessment flow sheet.

Initiates, utilizes and documents appropriate protocols and standards of care.

Administers medication and treatments as prescribed by physician, or protocols and documents according to policy.

Identifies and meets patient and family learning and discharge needs on admission and throughout episode of care.

Evaluates patient progression toward outcomes per unit policies and documents through EOSS etc.

Performs competently in emergency situations.

Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task.

Assumes responsibility for the clinical supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel.

Provides leadership through communication about and validation of patient care.

Assists with various procedures, treatments, surgical techniques or assigns to other healthcare team members as appropriate.

Completes patient population/age-specific/procedure and protocol education and competency testing per unit policy.

Demonstrates competency in required psychomotor skills.

Assists in orientation of new staff or students and serve as a resource person and professional role model.

Assumes professional responsibility for current nursing structure, nursing guidelines of care, and policies.

Incorporates PHS mission (VVPS) in care-giving activities.

Supports DON philosophies of professional governance and models of care delivery.


Assumes other leadership roles (i.e. relief charge nurse) as required by the department.

Meets professional requirements as follows:
A. In-service requirements:
1. Age-specific training (caregiving, treatment, assessments specific to the age of populations served).
2. Mandatory yearly in-service to include BLS, safety training, bloodborne pathogen/infection/respiratory fit testing training.
B. Performance Standards:
1. Participates in unit/department governance.
2. Adheres to PHS dress code for professionals, including display of ID badge.
3. Documents own continuing education.
4. Maintains positive communication and relationships with patients, peers and other healthcare team members.
5. Participates in quality improvement activities.
6. Maintains a punctual and reliable attendance record.
7. Completes mandatory in-services, competencies and licensure requirements on time.
8. Adheres to safety and equipment policies.

 

Performs other functions as required.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing

  • State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License

  • BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire

  • ACLS:Surgical Services Pre-Op and Recovery Room

  • PALS: Surgical Services Pre-Op and Recovery Room

  • CVOR HIGHLY PREFERRED
