Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), the  Nurse Manager shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the department. Functions will be performed in accordance with the nurse practitioner in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.

  • ​Performs hourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • ​Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
  • ​Functions effectively as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • ​Accepts responsibility for assurance that quality patient care is provided consistently according to hospital and departmental standards and policies/procedures.
  • ​Accepts accountability and responsibility for achievement of operational and capital budget goals.
  • ​Shares 24-hour accountability and responsibility with the ACNO for the effective and efficient operation of the Unit.
  • ​Promotes consistent, positive interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.
  • ​Demonstrates caring and empathy in all interactions and advocates for patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions.
  • ​Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications.
  • ​Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
  • ​Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
  • Use job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees.
  • ​Attends and actively participates in unit meetings.
  • ​Seeks opportunities to impact the growth of the organization by promoting excellence in patient experience and providing high quality care to the patients served.
  • ​Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and/or supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care. 

What qualifications you will need:

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing with Bachelors of Science in Nursing required​
  • ​Masters of Science in Nursing or other related field preferred.
  • ​3 years’ experience in Progressive Care Unit required.
  • Transplant or Critical Care background preferred 
  • 1+ year of leadership and demonstrated natural progression into leadership

 Licensure, Certifications, Training:

  • ​Current RN licensure by the State of Texas or from a Compact State if you declare the Compact State your Primary State of Residence required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
  • ​National certification in area of expertise preferred.
