Work Schedule: 
This is a full time position, scheduled Monday through Friday with core business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The role is hybrid, with a regular need to work onsite in Madison, WI to support organizational priorities. Off hours availability may be required.

UW Health is seeking a dynamic Director, Nursing Professional Development and Education to provide system wide leadership for nursing education, professional development, and competency across inpatient and ambulatory settings. This role advances an integrated nursing professional development model that supports clinical excellence, innovation, nurse confidence, and strong retention.

Lead nursing education specialists, the nationally accredited Nurse Residency Program, learning center nurses, and academic partnerships. Bring together education, professional development, and clinical practice into a cohesive strategy aligned with Magnet principles and academic medicine.

We are seeking a Director Nursing Professional Development & Education to:

  • Lead and advance a system wide nursing professional development model encompassing inpatient and ambulatory practice.
  • Support role development pathways for nurses and nursing support roles (RN, CNA, MA certification and advancement).
  • Foster an environment where nurses remain engaged, skilled, and supported—contributing to UW Health’s strong retention and low vacancy rates.
  • Promote innovative, evidence based, and “just in time” learning approaches.
  • Serve as a senior liaison between clinical practice and academic institutions.
  • Support regulatory readiness, professional practice, and Magnet alignment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required or
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Required and
  • Doctorate Degree in Nursing or related field Required

 

Work Experience

  • 3 years Relevant experience in nursing leadership Required
  • 3 years Demonstrated progressive leadership experience Required
  • Current regulatory, accreditation, and Joint Commission experience Required
  • Current experience as a Director in a progressive academic medical center with a minimum of five years of education and development experience Preferred

 

Licenses & Certifications

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Required
