Overview:

Our mission in the ICU is to provide healing, comfort and support to our patients and their families in times of critical need. This support is provided through two specialized ICUs: our 43 bed Pediatric ICU (PICU) and 24 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Our nursing staff can cross-train for both units.

 

Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses provide advanced illness management and health promotion for patients who require critical care. Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, family-centered and age appropriate nursing care for patients requiring critical care management. Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses continuously monitor the critically patient and react to changes in clinical status. Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses provide patient and family education, advocate for the complex needs of the critically ill child and coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team as necessary.

 

Clinical Services

  • 24-hour care provided by in-house board- certified pediatric critical care medicine specialists

  • Advanced monitoring and life support technologies including:

    • High frequency oscillation ventilation (HFOV)/All modes of ventilator assistance

    • Invasive intravascular/intracardiac techniques

    • Intracranial pressure monitoring

    • Bedside dialysis/renal replacement therapy

    • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

  • In-house consultation for 30 medical and eight surgical pediatric subspecialties

  • Clinical research in a variety of areas related to pediatric critical care

  • 24-hour ground and air emergency pediatric critical care transport:

  • Consultations to initiate patient stabilization and arrange patient transfer are provided by critical care specialists

Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the critically ill patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes.
  • Meets the educational and informational needs of the critically ill patient and family and advocates for their needs.
  • Maintains an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family centered.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality for critically ill patients.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree ADN Required. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training or
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
  • CCRN preferred

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $34.43/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
